My neighbor is more experienced and home modifications than me so I asked him his advice. Once I had removed the rectangular section of the drywall, I discovered that the builders had tied in one of the 2x4’s to the hall wall at a 990 degree angle impeding the safe’s insertion between the two studs I had planned. I proceeded to cut a hole in the drywall with my Ryobi reciprocating saw. I used a stud finder to confirm both the position of the studs I was to use as well as their width. Our closet angles at 45 degrees to share the support studs with the front hall wall, so I anticipated the possibility of interference with how the builders interfaced the 2x4’s with the bend in the wall and backed off a considerable distance. ![]() The safe required two studs of standard 16 inch spacing for mounting.
